Rachel Daniel
Rachel is a visual artist and PhD candidate studying part time at Lancaster
University. She is researching ways in which drawing can be used as a tool with
which to visualise the unseen and unseeable aspects of neurological disorders
such as epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease. She is particularly interested in how
drawing can be used to articulate both precise medical information and felt
experience, and aims to find new ways in which drawing can be utilised within the
contemporary medical world.
Her practice is made up of hybrid approaches to drawing in which she combines
traditional drawing techniques with new media such as film and installation. She
explores further ways in which a traditional drawing practice can be tested and
extended outside the studio through interaction with patients, medical researchers
and healthcare workers, creating work through observation, discussion and
collaboration.
